What is Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga?
Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is a style of yoga codified and popularized by K. Pattabhi Jois during the 20th century which is often promoted as a modern-day form of classical Indian yoga. Ashtanga means eight limbs or branches, of which asana or physical yoga posture is merely one branch, breath or pranayama is another. Both Pattabhi Jois and Sharath Jois, his grandson, encourage practice of Ashtanga Yoga - all eight limbs. The first two limbs - Yamas and Niyamas - are given special emphasis to be practiced in conjunction with the 3rd and 4th limbs (asana and pranayama).
A series of dynamic postures will enable you reach a meditative state whilst stretching the deepest muscles and certainly getting up a good detoxifying sweat!
What is Yin Yoga?
Yin yoga: a meditative and gentle approach accessible to all based on the principles of Taoist yoga. Incorporating long stretches combining slow and deep breathing. Characterized by postures held for several minutes, Yin yoga allows you to work the whole body and mind.
Since it targets connective tissue rather than focusing on muscle, Yin yoga significantly improves the overall flexibility of the body and the health of joints, organs and even bones. The long duration of each pose of Yin yoga promotes relaxation. By holding the poses longer, you will be able to reach a calm and elevated level of concentration which will allow you, during the sessions, to learn how to relax not only during the class but during day to day life.
